Take a Break

I don’t see how those with children find time to write. I had a lot to do today and I am too exhausted to do much writing. I hope you understand if this doesn’t make much sense.

Do you need a break? Take one. Your brain will thank you. Your story will be better for it. Unless that is when all the weird dreams set in. Those will take you higher than you have ever been before, and without the aid of drugs.

Is your serial killer in a serious story suddenly morphing into a Vulcan or Betazed? Maybe you should incorporate some of the characteristics of that race into your killer. If he is Vulcan have him be emotionless in his murders. If he is Betazed, have him appear to be reading the thoughts of his victims. Be bold. Be weird. Be out there.

After a short break of fantasy, you may once again be ready to get back to the nuts and bolts of writing your story. You might find it has taken on a new twist, or you have gone deeper into the psyche of your characters.

Don’t think you have to sit down and write for 5 or 6 hours straight without a break. You are only human. You need a break every once in a while. Don’t try to be Superman or Wonder Woman. They are fictional characters. Yu aren’t. You don’t have superpowers, as much as you might like to. None of us do.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to log off before I blow up the spell check. It already thinks I have lost my mind.
